Thoracic CT scans through the lung bases photographed in lung windows (figures 1 & 2) show enlarged peripheral pulmonary arteries. Note that pulmonary arteries can be seen in the immediate subpleural regions of lung, resting against the pleura.

Images photographed in soft tissue windows show that the opacities seen on the images photographed in lung windows enhance, confirming that the opacities indeed represent vasculature.

Thoracic CT performed in another patient with HPS shows dilation of the peripheral pulmonary arteries in the lower lobes, bilaterally. Small pleural effusions are also present.
