Benign Glomus Tumor

This benign parenchymal glomus tumor of lung shows a circumscribed tumor composed of rounded cells with central nuclei. Irregularly-shaped ("staghorn"), thin-walled vessels are scattered throughout.

Figure 2. High-Power View

Uniform nuclei are centrally located in polygonal cells with abundant pink or clear cytoplasm. Mitoses were absent. Tumor cells surround enlarged vessels lined by endothelial cells.

The ultrastructure of glomus tumor is similar in benign and malignant variants.
