Ultrastructure of neuroendocrine tumors: This photo shows a number of membrane-bound, dense-cored granules with a narrow halo around the core. These vary in size and frequency in neuroendocrine tumors. They tend to be large and numerous in carcinoid tumors (100-350 nm in diameter), intermediate in WDNC, and small (about 120 nm) and infrequent or absent in small cell carcinomas [1].
