Gross appearance: A segment of lung contains a circumscribed, white tumor, 4 cm in greatest dimension. There is central hemorrhage. Left level 3 and 4 lymph nodes, right level 4 and 5 nodes, and a level 7 node accompany the specimen.

Histologic changes: The non-encapsulated tumor is composed of nests of uniform cells. Capillaries with little stroma separate tumor cells. Mitoses are rare (arrow). In this tumor, <1 mitoses was found per 10 high power fields.

Nuclei have stippled (finely granular) chromatin and small nucleoli.
