Case 2--Gross Changes

The surface of the native left lung had some adhesions. The large pale, slightly raised nodules were hard, and the lung had to be sliced with a saw because of bone formation.

This small (4 x 2 cm) slice of lung shows two subpleural, whitish nodules of amyloid (upper arrows). In addition, amyloid was deposited along interlobular septa and bronchovascular bundles--the more translucent lines and nodules (lower arrow). Intervening lung was normal.
